Touch Controls That Don't Fight You
There's nothing worse than a game where you lose because your thumb covered half the screen. Good touch controls are invisible; you only notice them when they fail.
The best designs we've seen lean into the touchscreen instead of faking a gamepad. Swipes, holds and taps placed where fingers naturally rest make a huge difference. Virtual joysticks still have their place, but they need generous dead zones.
We test every game for this specifically. We play one-handed, we play with a cracked screen protector, we play tired. If the controls survive that, they're doing something right.
Racing and arcade games live or die on this. A half-second of input lag turns a fun drift into a frustrating crash.
